Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
