Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
